The idea of this joint
project was to stage not a performance but a visualisation of the
Suites for violoncello solo by J.S.Bach.
-
Making use of computer
graphics and live electronics, elements of the musical notation
are isolated and offered to the listener/spectator.
-
At the same time,
excerpts from the Suites are played back "in slow motion" as if
to scrutinise Bach's universe under a microscope.
-
Note by note.
-
The sort of 'mus’cal
physiology' which we hope to achieve finds a natural correspondence
in RenŽ Descartes's "Les passions de l'âme".
-
Through the readings
from this work we are staging an experiment which seeks to establish
the boundary between the body and the soul which dwells in it, between
the gesture and the passion which generated it, between the sound
and the symbol that notated it.Dust
like light.

René Descartes,
Seigneur du Perron, was partial to an omelette made with eggs that
had lain under the hen for eight to ten days; eggs removed too soon
or subsequently, he noted, made a revolting omelette. (Note in the
margin to Samuel Becketts poem Whoroscope).
